The lingerie specialty store

Marie Jo Styling

What can you expect from your lingerie specialty store?

Many women swear by the service they get from a specialist lingerie store. When you get personalised advice, you leave the store with the lingerie that brings out your strengths and hides your less good points.

The lingerie store has changed a lot in recent years. We would like to tell you what you can expect when you visit one today.

The store

The shop window gives you a taste of what you’ll find inside. It creates an atmosphere and entices you in. Remember that the shop window does not show every product available in the store. So you should go inside even if you don’t immediately see what you’re looking for.

Nowadays, lingerie is presented on hangers. That means you can take all the time you need to look at the stock. If you don’t find what you want, ask the sales assistant. She will be happy to help you.

You and your lingerie stylist

In fact, we prefer to speak in terms of lingerie specialists rather than sales assistants. A lingerie stylist does a lot more than simply sell. She identifies the right bra for you, and she isn’t prepared to compromise.

Your lingerie stylist wants to know all about your preferences. Any favourite model you have or a special occasion you want a new bra for, for instance. She is interested in you and listens to your expectations. Discretion is her watchword.

The fitting room

You sell lingerie in the fitting room, because you cannot leave finding the right bra to chance. Everyone has experienced those poky cubicles with the curtain that doesn’t close all the way. Fortunately, they are increasingly a thing of the past. The new fitting rooms are spacious and intimate at the same time. There are plenty of hooks on the wall to hang your clothes and handbag.

Double fitting rooms are the crème de la crème. You try on the lingerie in one cubicle, while the lingerie stylist and your partner wait in an adjacent space. This protects you from prying eyes when you show off how you look.

Sizes

The first thing the stylist does is find out your size. She’ll explain why one size is right and another not quite, so that you’ll know what to look for in a good-fitting bra. She’ll explain why it’s so important that the back panel hugs the body, how the breasts should fit in the cup and the right position of the central panel between the cups.

Models

Once you’ve identified the right size, you can start looking for the model. You may have your own favourites or you may prefer to tell the lingerie stylist the effect you want to achieve. If you have a specific outfit in mind, you should tell the lingerie specialist. Better still, take it with you to the store. Keep in mind that there is more than one right model for you.

The same goes for briefs. Whether you want to correct your figure or be provocative, there are so many different models to choose from.
